Runes
Runes are attribute-enhancing gemstones that can be socketed to Armor Sets. While the stats gained through gear are fixed numbers, runes increase stats by a certain percentage. Because of this relationship between gear and runes, they represent an exponential increase in attributes when placed into higher-ranked armor sets. They can be found throughout the world of Talamhel, as well as being common drops by Enemies and Bosses.
Runes and Spells are both accessed and managed by Seldom, The Rune Carver, situated on the merchant strip on Starspire Refuge upon completing the Main Story Quest Well Run Dry.
Starspire's merchant Galina, The Forage Broker offers an indefinitely replenishing stock of runes that can be incrementally expanded by completing Scavenging Side Quests.
Runes can be placed into empty sockets of an armor piece on the inventory screen - weapons do not possess rune slots. If a rune is placed into a slot that is already occupied with one, the existing rune will be destroyed.
Runes are used to enhance all seven attributes - two primary attributes Health and Armor and five secondary attributes: Armor Penetration, Critical Damage, Haste, Spellblade Damage and Special Damage.
Every runic stone comes in six different ranks, each level increasing its potency.

Remove Rune
Seldom allows the removal of runes from their sockets without risk, limitation or cost.
Upgrade Rune
All available runes and their respective ranks may be reviewed before the process. Enhancements do not cost glint, but require the Rune Dust upgrade material. Rune dust can be extracted by Seldom from existing runes, destroying them in the process. Runes cannot be upgraded while they are inside a socket and need to be inside the player inventory. Runes cannot be crafted themselves, instead an already existing rune has to be upgraded with rune dust. Every rune, regardless of its rank, can freely be upgraded as long as dust is available.
Necessary Rune Dust per Upgrade
- 1 -> 2 - 3 Dust
- 2 -> 3 - 9 Dust
- 3 -> 4 - 27 Dust
- 4 -> 5 - 81 Dust
- 5 -> 6 - 243 Dust
Deconstruct Rune
Extracting dust from a rune results in its destruction, but the process itself carries no cost or limitation.
The extraction process yields a different amount based on rank
- Rune level 1 - 1 Dust
- Rune level 2 - 2 Dust
- Rune level 3 - 6 Dust
- Rune level 4 - 18 Dust
- Rune level 5 - 54 Dust
- Rune level 6 - 161 Dust
