Sans of Aura has some unique mechanics that will be explained on this page.

Combat Mechanics

Corruption

When you hit enemies you generate corruption. this is shown on the bottom right. as you gain corruption the bar fills with a purple color. There are 4 bars within the length of the bar. Each of these bars need to be filled to fill a spellblade pip which can be found in the bottom center of your screen. Fully filling the bar will give you 4 of these pips after doing a special attack. Filling 3 will give you 3, however if you use special attack after filling 3 bars you can still fill the last pip by using spellblade again with just 1 bar filled. You cannot fill build up more than 4 pips unless you have the spellslinger talisman equipt.

Special Attack

To be able to use special attack your corruption bar needs to be filled up past the first of the 4 bars on your main corruption bar. The more bars you fill the more damage your special attack will do. The more bars you fill the more spellblade pips will be filled allowing you to use the spellblade you have equipt. You cannot use special attack if you have not filled at least 1 of the 4 bars on your corruption bar.

Spellblade

Spellblade abilities are attacks, dodges and blocks that are attuned to a magical ability of your choice. For example, Let's say you have 3 different spellblade books learned. Frost, Fire, and lightning. You can equip any of those spellblades onto either Attack, dodge or block. This will unlock unique abilities when you use Attack, dodge or block. Using spellblade will activate the pips you have filled by using special attack or through cleansing. you can activate more than one pip at a time by pressing your spellblade button multiple times allowing you to chain attacks or chain dodges for the desired effect. once you use your activated pips by attacking dodging or blocking, the pips will be consumed and you will need to generate more corruption and either use special attack or cleans to refill those pips.

Critical hit

In Sands of Aura the way you achieve critical hits is by hitting enemies in the back. The amount of extra damage you will do is increased based off of your critical damage stat. keep in mind that you can also be critically hit if you are struck in the back.

Stagger

When you hit enemies they will be staggered, preventing them from attacking you until they recover.

Stun

Stunned enemies turn yellow and fall to the floor leaving them vulnerable to attacks for a little over 3 seconds. Be careful because you can be stunned too. The player can be stunned by enemy abilities or if they block to the point their shield breaks. The way your shield breaks is based on your poise which will be explained in the poise section.

Unstoppable

Enemies become unstoppable if they are staggered for longer than a second meaning that they cannot be staggered anymore for a certain amount of time. You can till they are unstoppable because they will turn purple.
