The Smile of Hatred

Quest Overview

The Smile of Hatred is a Side Quest in Sands of Aura. Side quests are optional and do not alter the primary ending of the game, but some may alter the arcs of certain characters. Some side quests are dependent upon other quests to begin or may only become available once the main narrative of the game has been progressed to a specific point. Note: Completing the Smile of Hatred is the only way to require the Weapon Blacksmith.

Part One Progress from the bell at the docks into the main interior of Radix, the area with the large pool of water. There in the corner is a once-woman blacksmith. Speaking to her reveals she has trouble speaking but she was able to mutter the word teeth. From your position near the smith, progress to the back left corner of the room where you’ll find a staircase. Progress up the staircase watching out for the rolling boulders before you come to a split path. Follow to the left, the path with the thorny brambles and two archers, and progress along the path until it warps around the main exterior of the building. Eventually you’ll come to a room with a large circular pit held within. Jumping down will reveal the item “Finely Crafted Dentures.” With this item in hand follow the same path you took back to the smith. Step By Step Turn around from Tooth-Lacking Lakin and follow the wall and turn left up the stairs. Avoid the two boulders and turn left at the top of the stairs and continue on the path turning right at the wall and left again. Continue forward up a small flight of stairs and turn left. Turn left into an opening in the wall where you will see big well with corpses at the bottom. Jump down and collect the dentures and return to Tooth-Lacking Lakin Part Two Giving the “Finely Crafted Dentures” to the smith reveals her to be Lakin, The Weapon Smith. She thanks you (in her own way) for helping her and offers to forge something for you. After admiring her work, you offer her a position in Starspire to which she declines. She came to Radix to destroy a number of Ferrum who have been intombed into the walls of stronghold. Should you help her, she may be inclined to 0join you at Starspire refuge. There are three Ferrum to be found within Radix Stronghold. The first is intombed upon a wall that you passed in order to find the “Finely Crafted Dentures.” To get there proceed from your position near the smith to the back left corner of the room where you’ll find a staircase. Progress up the staircase until you get to the split path with the thorny brambles and two archers. Follow this path, until you see a wall with an ornate Ferrum plastered upon it. Attacking this structure will give you an “Ornate Ferrum Helm.” The second Ferrum helm can be acquired from the third floor of the Radix Library. From your position at the first Ferrum, double back to where the two archers stood in the brambles and follow the set of stairs that descend down beside the large thorn patch. Follow the battlement as it runs along the thorn patch until you notice a ladder which ascends a tower. Climbing the ladder will bring you to a platform where Sir Gideon stands. Ignoring Sir Gideon for now, find the spiral staircase that runs up the middle of the Radix Library and take it to the third floor. Once on the third floor you’ll find the Ferrum encased in a wall. For the third Ferrum, exit Radix Library using the lever before the locked gate opposite the side you entered and follow the rightmost path until you come again to the room with the pit where you acquired the dentures. From there, cross the bridge above the main entrance and follow the path straight until coming to another stairway with falling boulders. Ascend the stairs and follow the path to the right until you come to the two statues before a bridge. Follow it and the natural path as it wraps around and leads to the sewer section of Radix Stronghold. There you’ll find the final Ferrum on a nearby wall as well as the optional “Broken Blade,” item beside them. Proceeding back to Lakin and showing her the Ferrum helms will allow you to recruit her to Starspire. If you collected the “Broken Blade,” item, you may question Lakin about it to learn a bit more about her history with Snowcinders who once resided within Radix Stronghold. Step By Step The first Ferrum helm can be found by leaving Lakin and going up the only set of stairs found in the room. Turn left at the top of the stairs and the ferrum will be found at the end of this hall guarded by two Radix Assasins. A melted Ferrum will be incased in molten metal. attack it to retrieve the helm. The 2nd Ferrum helm is located on the 3rd floor of the Radix Library. A melted Ferrum will be incased in molten metal. attack it to retrieve the helm. The 3rd ferrum helm is located at the highest point of Radix Stronghold in an area that looks like a sewer with 2 walkways on either side of the water. A melted Ferrum will be incased in molten metal. attack it to retrieve the helm.
