== Quest Overview ==

The Specter of Tradition is a Side Quest in Sands of Aura. Side quest are optional and do not alter the primary ending of the game. Some side quests are dependent upon other quests to begin or may only become available once the main narrative of the game has been progressed to a specific point. Note: The Specter of Tradition is the starting point for Alaria’s character arc. If it is not completed before a major plot event (entering the city of Ishular) the quest will fail and the character involved will progress along a different path.

Part One

Upon approaching the Ruins of Hurwell, Felker mentions the vessels of graverobbers near the dock and warns of the ire of a mysterious figure referred to as “The Lady.” Speaking with him after docking, Felker will mention “the Lady” as a wraith of Hurwell who guards the graves of Hurwell. He recommends you proceed with caution when exploring. Proceeding deeper into the island, you’ll find Danthea has taken position before a bench near a set of stairs. Proceed straight into a large open area littered with a few graves you’ll find Ulburr, the Dirt Defiler on the left who will shut a gate before you and will summon a number of enemies your direction. After defeating them, you can proceed back toward Danthea and progress up the stairs near her which will curl over to the raised platform behind her with a dead tree. Following the available path will bring you to a set of stairs which leads down into an inner courtyard. There a mysterious figure stands in as rain falls in a concentrated area around her. Speaking to this figure reveals her as Alaira, The Lady of Hurwell. She mumbles anxiously about a lost item until discovering you before her, informs you about an heirloom stolen from the graves in Hurwell. While she honors your right as a Remnant Knight to walk the streets of Hurwell, she warns you to keep out of the graves and to not disturb the bodies. She then bounds off screen. Turing from where you spoke with her in the lower courtyard, you can follow a small body of water that wraps around and will eventually lead you to the opposite side of the gate which Ulburr had shut to keep you out.

Part Two

When confronting Ulburr, he will explain his actions and try to make a bargain with you. He asks that you help him escape the settlement and in return he’ll join your cause and fight by your side. Here you have a few choices. You can accept his request and tell him where your vessel is. You can attack him. Or you can question him. Question him reveals that he is a graverobber and that he traveled with someone know as the Burned Man, this information may assist with the “Engulfed in Sin,” quest. He also mentions that he and his partner Auckkerman where attacked by “The Lady,” and its likely his partner has been taken to her court. Whatever decision you make regarding Ulburr, you can use the nearby lever to open up the gate.

Progressing here up some nearby stairs will wrap around a battlement. After fighting a number of enemies and dodging arrows from archers, you’ll cross over a wooden planks laid over some columns, before coming to a small platform with a couple benches and a small stairway leading up. There is also a ladder here that can be activated to allow quick return to the bell at the dock. Progressing up the stairs and entering the door, will bring you into the court of Hurwell. Once inside, you’ll see a brief scene of Alaria standing before a frightened Auckkerman. Alaria will confront you in her court and mistake you as one of the graverobbers who disturb the graves of Hurwell. Mentioning her duty to protecting her family and their rest, she will raise her blade and bring you into combat. After defeating Alaira, Auckkerman will bring you into conversation and warn you that Alaria always gets back up. After speaking with Auckkerman the quest will complete, but the player can speak to Auckkerman at the docks to ask a few follow up questions pertaining to Calder and the “Engulfed in Sin,” quest.
